Jonah

Artist name: Swanson John August

Around the center frame, smaller panels depict scenes from the book of Jonah. On the upper left Jonah receives his call from an angel, he then boards a ship at Jaffa, encounters a storm at sea and is cast into the sea by the sailors. In the center, Jonah is swallowed by the whale, feet first . On the bottom, Jonah is in the belly of the whale for three days, praying for salvation and is then vomited by the whale. On the right, Jonah reaches the shore, preaches to the people of Nineveh, encounters its king and finally sits under the castor plant in a hut as the sun beats down on him.
