Mt. Sinai

Artist name: El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos)

Moses receives the Tables of the Covenant from a burning cloud at the peak of Mount Sinai, which is depicted as an enormous obelisk-like mountain. To the right two winged angels stand upon a parallel mountain top, known as St. Catherine’s Mount. The citadel at the foot of the mountain is the near-by monastery which bears her name. In the foreground pilgrims from West and East make their way toward the mountain.
