On the left: Jephthah’s daughter kneels on a hill with her hands clasped and laments over her virginity. Next to her stand three female companions, two of whom look at her and join her in her weeping.
On the right: Jephthah, wearing warrior’s armor, raises a sword over his daughter, who kneels on an altar with her eyes open and her hands clasped together.
