Artist name: Godines Benjamin Senior
One of three vanitas paintings dedicated to Godines’ patron, Don Isaac Aboab. On the right, Isaac kneels on the altar, to the left of his father; both look toward a small angel, next to whom are the words “Be pure with the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 18:13). On the left, a lordly man watches the sowing of his fields, in accordance with Genesis 26:12. Additional blessings appear above and around open doors in the center of the painting.
